My First Post ~ 30 Years of "Wisdom"!

It's one hour into the next decade of my life, therefore I'm having a rather introspective moment. Indulge me, it's my birthday! This seems like a good time to make my first blog posting. I can't guarantee that anything you read here will be earth-shattering or overly profound, but I'll take this opportunity to share a little of what God has been teaching me over the last 30 years (wow, that sounds crazy). So here is the product of my introspection for your reading pleasure:

30 Things I Have Learned in 30 Years

1.      First, last, always; Jesus is my greatest friend, most trusted confidant and the only One who sees every part of me, and loves me with abandon.

2.      You are going to be hurt, but don’t let that stop you from living.

3.      Never try to find fulfillment in another person.

4.      You are beautiful, you are precious and you are loved.

5.      That Knight on a white horse, he might never come; and if he doesn’t, you’ll be okay.

6.      Family is one of God’s greatest gifts, treasure them.

7.      Life is short, take chances, be compassionate, live.

8.      This isn’t home, so don’t focus on being comfortable.

9.      Moms are right about 99% of the time.

10.  Grandparents are a true treasure, if you still have yours always make time for them, they will be gone before you know it.

11.  Make wise decisions, they tend to have fewer negative consequences.

12.  It’s okay if you don’t have everything figured out. This life is a journey; if you stop learning you stop living.

13.  British television is far superior to American television.

14.  Study history, it will help you to understand today and tomorrow.

15.  Never settle for second best; complacency in the long run is far more damaging than confrontation.

16.  Don’t let culture influence how you feel about the path God has lead you down, it’s not supposed to make sense to the world.

17.  Those little old ladies at church that can sniff out a single person at 100 yards and know “just the right person for you”, most of them really do mean well.

18.  Get up and move, your body may hate you now, but it will thank you in the long run.

19.  The pain of losing someone you love never goes away, but what a blessing it is to have known that love.

20.  Not everyone in a position of authority is right, not all of them have your best interest at heart.

21.  Trust your instincts, it can save you more than pain, it can save your life.

22.  Every person in your life is there for a purpose, some to bless and others to challenge. Try not to resent the challenges.

23.  Find music that feeds your soul and moves your heart. (Elvis Presley, Van Morrison, Switchfoot, Ray Lamontagne, Nickel Creek – in case you want recommendations!)

24.   “Be shrewd as serpents and innocent as doves.” Matthew 10:16b

25.   Don’t be so hard on yourself; you are not perfect so don’t be surprised when you don’t exhibit perfection.

26.   No you don’t look like that model on the magazine, thank God, neither does she.

27.  The most convincing lies are perversions of the truth.

28.  Friends are like fire, some blaze and burn out quickly while others are white hot embers that are heated over time and help keep you warm. Never neglect the embers.

29.  Cherish every day. That sunshine on your face, that soft breeze through your hair is the touch of a loving Savior.

30.  Embrace your quirks; they are what set you apart in a world of anatomically incorrect Barbies.
Okay kids, it's after 1 a.m., I'm 30 now, I need sleep!
